Sometimes identifying a creditor can be tricky since the name might not be immediately recognizable to you, even if the activity is something that you do recognize.
Here are some things to look for when looking at the creditor listed in your alert:
- Abbreviations - creditors may be listed under an abbreviated name
- Example: Bank of America may be listed as BOA, BofA, or Bk of Amer
- Credit card issuer - store credit cards are typically reported by the card issuer or underwriter
- Example: Amazon Visa credit card is issued by Chase (JPMCB)
- Underwriter for a loan
- Example: Rocket Mortgage may use a company like CoreLogic Credco to pull your credit report
