What is it?
Data brokers collect public information about a person and sell it to companies or consumers— possibly exposing you to unwanted ads, scams, spam, and robocalls. Aura will request to remove your info from several brokers—helping you take control of your data & privacy.
Why is this important?
Data brokers collect and sell your personal info because it's valuable to marketers and advertisers. Your exposed info can lead to unwanted ads, scams, spam, and robocalls.
Some brokers offer your personal info to consumers (e.g. people search sites), which is an opportunity for identity thieves to impersonate you. Using a data broker opt-out service helps you reduce the risk of identity theft and ads.
How does the feature work?
Aura’s automated service submits your data (email, name, address, phone number) to be removed from several data brokers. This is done frequently, to ensure if the data brokers somehow add back your information, we are constantly asking for them to remove it. Please note, that we cannot guarantee that the brokers will remove the personal information.
Once the removal request has been approved by the data broker from Aura, they will process it for removal. You may receive emails from the brokers as they prepare to remove your information, but some will perform the removal silently. The removal process may take up to 30 days, though this varies by broker.
Diligence is key when dealing with data brokers. Aura continually resubmits your removal requests to prevent data brokers from re-collecting your information.
