Credit Lock vs. Credit Freeze

2. Credit locks and credit freezes are steps that you can take to protect yourself if your information is stolen, or exposed, or if you're looking for more peace of mind. 
3. A credit lock is a free service offered by Experian that you can access from the Aura app. You might place a credit lock on your account for extra protection and peace of mind. When you turn on the credit lock Experian will restrict access to your credit report making it more difficult for new accounts to be opened in your name without your authorization. If you decide to open a new account then you can easily turn off the credit lock from your aura app. 
4.  A credit freeze is a more secure way to protect your credit. You might use a credit freeze if your information is stolen or compromised. When you place a credit freeze, all three major credit bureaus will restrict access to your credit report, this means that no one including lenders will be able to view your credit report without your permission. If you decide to open a new account then you will need to contact each credit bureau individually to remove the credit freeze, whichever option makes sense for your situation.
