Common Sense Media and Aura Announce Multi-Year Partnership to Protect Kids from Online Harms and Promote Mental Wellbeing

Boston, Nov. 18, 2025 — Common Sense Media, the nation's leading nonprofit dedicated to protecting and preparing kids for the digital era, and Aura, the leading AI-powered online safety platform for families, today announced a strategic multi-year partnership to empower those raising the next generation in an age of algorithms, early screen exposure, and growing mental health challenges.

Common Sense Media's research shows that today's children are digital from day one. Forty percent of children have a tablet by age two, and nearly one in four have a personal cellphone by age eight. While their screen time remains steady at about 2.5 hours per day, there has been a shift in how screen time is being used. Gaming time has surged 65 percent in four years, and traditional TV viewing has declined, while short-form video platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts are on the rise.

At the same time, teens who spend four or more hours per day on screens report significantly higher rates of depressive symptoms, and two‑thirds of parents say parenting is harder today than 20 years ago, citing technology overuse as a key factor. There is an urgent need for improved tools to support parents as they help their children build and maintain healthy online habits.

The collaboration unites Common Sense Media's decades of expertise in youth online safety and media literacy with Aura Parent's data-driven insights and technology that promotes security and wellbeing. Together, they'll set a new standard for what responsible technology and empowered parenting can look like — helping families understand their children's online worlds, identify risks, and raise kids who thrive both online and off.

"We're excited to combine our leadership on kids' online safety with Aura's expertise to protect and prepare families in the digital era," said Common Sense Media Founder and CEO James P. Steyer. "In our AI-powered world, online experiences have a more powerful impact than ever. Together, Common Sense Media and Aura will make sure families have the facts and resources they need to stay safe online and improve their lives, online and off."

"Algorithms and social platforms are shaping our kids' attention, self-worth, and relationships faster than parents, educators, and policymakers can keep up," said Hari Ravichandran, Aura CEO and founder. "Families are looking for guidance and practical tools to help parents and their children navigate a connected world that changes constantly."

The partnership will include a range of initiatives spanning co-branded digital safety resources and expert guidance for millions of families nationwide, joint educational campaigns, integration into the Aura Parents offering, and collaborative programming across digital and live events — including a dedicated program track at the 2026 Common Sense Media Summit on Kids and Families programmed by Aura and focused on Digital Parenthood™.
